Indiana Canine Assistant Network (ICAN)

Indiana's only Assistance Dogs International (ADI)-accredited service dog organization, training mobility, psychiatric, facility, and in-home skilled companion dogs. Its Psychiatric Service Dog program places task-trained dogs with Indiana veterans coping with PTSD, c-PTSD, MST, and/or TBI. Most ICAN dogs are trained by incarcerated handlers at three Indiana correctional facilities.

Eligibility
Veterans referred by the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System; must provide a medical professional referral, ROI form, DD-214 with Honorable Discharge, and a 50% or above service-connected disability rating including PTSD, c-PTSD, MST, and/or TBI diagnosis; must be in active mental health treatment and have at least six months of sobriety if there is a history of substance abuse.
